Videoconferencing, or two-way synchronous video transmission over a network, is a useful tool for many applications, such as conducting meetings between different sites, bringing otherwise inaccessible experts into the classroom, or conducting employment interviews with future employers. Videoconferencing saves travel time and costs, and allows for a face-to-face meeting between small groups.
There are two videoconferencing classrooms in the Alkek Library and two videoconferencing classrooms at the Avery Building on our Round Rock campus that are equipped for viewing and presenting. The rooms have cameras, data projectors, codecs, computers, microphones, document cameras, DVD/VCR’s, audio playback and a laptop connection. The codecs (compressors/decompressors) utilize (H.323) videoconferencing or videoconferencing over Internet Protocol. Each room is capable of dialing into either a single far site or multiple sites with similar technology. These rooms seat groups of 30 or less.

Instructors Training/Orientation
Instructors assigned to teach interactive television classes should contact Instructional Technologies Support to arrange for a training and orientation session to better prepare for teaching in a videoconferencing environment.
How can I arrange for videoconferencing?
Call 512-245-2094 to request videoconferencing services. In order to make the necessary preparations, please fill out our Videoconferencing Request Form several weeks in advance so that we may arrange testing with the far site in order to determine if the request can be fulfilled. Demonstrations are available upon request.
