LOGGING IN TO TURNITIN FOR THE FIRST TIME

GETTING STARTED

  1. Contact a Turnitin Administrator at Turnitin@txstate.edu or 512-245-5566
  2. The Turnitin Administrator will add you to the department account
  3. You will receive an email from the Turnitin help desk
  4. The email contains a temporary password. Please copy the temporary password provided in the email and paste the password when prompted. 

LOGGING IN TO TURNITIN FOR THE FIRST TIME [top]

  1. Go to http://www.turnitin.com
  2. Type in your Texas State email address and paste the temporary password given to you in the email you received.
  3. Click the Log In button
  4. You will be asked to create a new password that will be easy for you to remember. After verifying your password you will be asked to provide a secret question and answer. This will help if you forget your password.
  5. Agree to the terms of use
  6. Go through the course creation wizard. You will be asked to create a class name and enrollment password. 
    PLEASE MAKE THE ENROLLMENT PASSWORD SOMETHING EASY FOR THE STUDENTS TO REMEMBER.
     
    You must give the enrollment password to your students. The password IS case sensitive. Turnitin will also create an enrollment ID number for your class. You must furnish your class with BOTH the enrollment ID and password.
     

CREATING AN ASSIGNMENT [top]

  1. Click the class name to view the class homepage (the class name is located beneath the account name and to the right of the class ID)
  2. Click create new assignment
  3. Type in the assignment title
  4. Select the assignment begin and due date
  5. Type in instructions
  6. Select Yes to allow originality reports
  7. Select Yes to show advanced options
  8. Scroll down the page to view more options
  9. Select the option to generate originality report immediately (first report is final), immediately (can over ride reports until due date), or on due date
    Note: the last two options allow the students to submit a report several times. Multiple submissions may cause a lag in originality report delivery. Please make sure and tell your students this fact.
  10. Select Yes to allow other papers to be checked against submissions
  11. Select the search targets
  12. Click submit

ADDING A CLASS TO AN ALREADY EXISTING ACCOUNT[top]

  1. Click the add a class link
  2. Type in the class name and enrollment password
  3. Select the class end date
  4. Select Yes to allow your students to view their own Originality Reports
  5. Click submit
  6. View the new class confirmation box which contains the Class ID and enrollment password
    Note: Your students will need the class ID and enrollment password to log in and join your class
  7. Close the new class confirmation box

VIEWING PAPERS AND ORGINALITY REPORTS [top]

  1. Click the class name
  2. Click the Inbox (located to the right of the assignment title)
  3. Click the title of the assignment to view the paper submitted
  4. Click the Icon located beneath the Report column to view the originality report
